Transit Systems Incorporated was founded in
1986. Since inception, our corporate focus has
maintained a certain duality, Quality and
Diversification. Quality means more to us than
just manufacturing a part to specifications.
Quality is interwoven through all aspects of
our operations. It includes being a responsive
and responsible corporation, delivering
materials on time and utilizing the latest
manufacturing techniques to provide the best
product available. Our desire to stay on the
leading edge of technology will enhance our
corporate focus and afford us the opportunity
to meet the challenges that lie ahead.
Our diversification program encompasses all
facets of our marketing strategy. We have a
diverse product line, manufacturing capacity
and customer base. This diversity has helped to
keep us strong in the volatile marketplace. We
have worked on several overhaul projects in
addition to our replacement part business. The
overhaul consists of manufacturing new parts or
assemblies for a fleet of commuter cars. Some
of these projects are as follows:
We overhauled the Long Island Rail
Road’s M-1 and M-3 fleet of air
conditioner and vapor control group covers. The
LIRR design was for a fiberglass cover having a
variety of mechanical and electrical
properties. We also fabricated 650 vestibule
ceiling assemblies. The project consisted
of eight different aluminum extrusions with
fiberglass light panels.
We have completed several large contracts for
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. TSI
manufactured plymetal flooring for the Blue
Line. We also fabricated door sets for the
Trackless Trolley cars and exterior fiberglass
panels for the Green Line.
On New Jersey Transits’ Arrow 3 Fleet, we
overhauled the air conditioner covers.
TSI fabricated and installed handicap
access ramps pursuant to the ADA of 1990. The
installation included mounting ramp boxes on
the station platforms along the Northeast
Corridor from Newark to Trenton. We have
fabricated this product for both New Jersey
Transit and Amtrak.
Our regular replacement part business covers a
broad spectrum. Some of the parts are station
maintenance parts as with New York City Transit
Authority. These parts include fiberglass sand
boxes that are either one or one half cubic
yard containers which are located on the
station platforms. TSI also fabricates a series
of fiberglass products that prevents sediment
from dripping on the cars as they travel
through the subway tunnels.
The bulk of our replacement part business are
components for commuter cars, light rail
vehicles, subways and buses. A sampling of the
parts that TSI manufactures for Metro North
Commuter Railroad include propulsion group
covers, specialty high strength bolts, such as
the vertical suspension bolt and bolster bar,
flexible and stainless steel ducts, coupler
adapters, uncoupling wrenches, sleeves,
brackets, washers, shims, traction motor covers
and motor brackets. LIRR and NJ Transit use
many of the same parts as well as aluminum
control box covers, circuit breaker covers,
stainless steel battery box covers, battery box
trays, bus bars, ground cables and shunts to
name a few.
We have over 20 different extrusions that are
used in various places on the Volvo, Eagle,
Flexible and RTS Buses. Most of these
extrusions are widow frames and locks. Others
are used on the door openings or to hold the
side panels and skirts in place. TSI
manufactures tail light assemblies, corner
panels and a variety of other items.
Transit Systems Incorporated also engages in
contracts outside of the mass transit industry.
Our broad manufacturing capacity easily lends
itself to commercial work. The products
mentioned above represent a small portion of
our diversified product line. We have the
capacity to fabricate small or large runs of
custom or standard parts. Please give us a
call and let our experienced quality team work
for you.
